Mount Buller Residence
Mount Buller
A play on the traditional log-cabin, Mount Buller Residence has quiet nods to its ski chalet cousins, with the comforts of an everyday dwelling. Living in the alpine environment for four months of the year, this residence had to not only reflect its environment, be responsive to the climate and their use of the space, but also be robust. Undertaken as an extensive renovation, there are mixes of the old (with vintage artwork and ski flags) and refreshing touches of the contemporary.
A palette of warm, inviting textures are used throughout, mixed with a classic palette of crisp whites and greys. Timber panelling and alpine-inspired textures – wool, plaids, leathers – are all brought together with rich warm chocolate coloured timbers and custom joinery pieces. Warmth and texture were key. Moments of personality, through the artwork and mini ski gondola (for example), add to this being a place that feels like home for the elongated time it is.
